18th July Race Report
After a week of sporadic but heavy rain we new it
would be a late start, but with a coax failure added in to the mix we were
really under pressure to get the meeting going.
I really appreciated David Trotman from the North Harbour Club dropping
everything to bring us out a back up cable and that comes down to inter club
cooperation, Thanks David. In the end we didn’t use NH's cable as luck would
have it James Burke had a crimping tool on board; it’s a sort of MacGyver moment
just when you need it.
They are not a generally the sort thing you find in an RC tool box. My run home
to pick up my back up computer also proved to be a waist of time, but I won't
forget next time as we could have isolated the problem earlier if I hadn’t
forgotten to bring it for the first time in months.
Although it started out as a brisk winter's day the sun was out and racing was
on a super sticky track.
Practice saw the cars coming in with the mandatory weight penalty, but by the
second round of Heats the track saw marbles of mud building up on outside of the
corners but the cars were no longer suffering from the extra KG of mud.
Craig wrapped up TQ with 2 Round wins In Buggy, but no 11 lappers today,
TQ in Truggy was Grant Moon but it was a hard fort battle with Gant Jenkins, but
for the Truggy final the roles reversed seeing GJ with a 1/2 Lap lead at when
the flag fell.
Overall the racing is picking up and that is shown by just how many guys are on
the lead lap or only one lap of behind the leader in all the finals.
Just take a look at how many finished with 33 laps or better.
I am also seeing personal best for many drivers are creping up with every
meeting.
Hope you all enjoyed the day and look forward to our next point's day on the 1st
of August
Last thanks to all the guys for helping clean up, at the end of the day
generally I am pretty knackered, as trying to run a meeting and race myself is
pretty tiring and far worse when it turns to custard so the that bit of help to
set up and clean up is really appreciated. THANKS
Trevor
